Node-RED Messages Node

Overview​

This Node-RED node allows sending and receiving packets to a Meshtastic mesh network thru a device connected via HTTP, HTTPS or serial port It is based on Meshtastic Web library.

Features​

  • Send and receive text messages to/from any device in the mesh
  • Supervise/monitor device status
  • Subscribe and receive all types of events supported by [Meshtastic Web (examples: AtakATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit). The Android TAK client. An official Meshtastic plugin forwards its Cursor on Target traffic over the mesh., Position, Range Test, Map Report, Store and Forward, etc...)
  • Send packets to any Meshtastic APP (port num)
  • Plug and Play: no additional servers, no containers, no CLICLI (Command Line Interface). A text-based interface used for interacting with software or devices like Meshtastic., no binary files, super simple configuration
  • Indirect support to MQTTMQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport). A lightweight messaging protocol designed for small sensors and mobile devices, enabling efficient data transmission in the Meshtastic network for Internet connectivity and integration with IoT platforms. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MQTT. In Meshtastic, MQTT is used to connect a node to the internet, and can be used to connect multiple meshes to each other. via uplink/downlink channels
  • HTTP, HTTPS and serial connections supported

Limitations​

  • Connect directly to the MQTTMQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport). A lightweight messaging protocol designed for small sensors and mobile devices, enabling efficient data transmission in the Meshtastic network for Internet connectivity and integration with IoT platforms. In Meshtastic, MQTT is used to connect a node to the internet, and can be used to connect multiple meshes to each other. server: this is not supported by Meshtastic Web
  • Connecting to a device via Bluetooth is not supported by Meshtastic Web
